Cool Idea: Jennifer’s Method

Maeve shares her friend Jennifer's inspiring DIY organization tips and ideas.

One thing that gets me jazzed is seeing the innovative ways that people get organized on their own, to support the busyness that is their lives. My friend Jennifer consistently comes up with the best DIY self-organization and system ideas. I love hearing about what she's up to, it's inspiring.

Last spring we sat in Madison Square Park for a visit. Jennifer stayed true to her 'queen of cool ideas' title sharing this tip and that, always up on the latest web or new mommy trend. And if you ask for more information, she emails you with relevant info and links within 24 hours. #busymom

But what's cool about her is that she is equally into to your ideas. And when she hears something she wants to remember, she’s writes it down. Jennifer doesn’t use a smart phone, so she captures info in ways that work for her. Here are two of my favorites, that I'd love to share with you.

The ‘Sticky Pad Embedded in Current Library Book’ System

Jennifer always has a library book with her. Because it’s a 'go-to' for every day, she knows if she makes a list, or jots a note down, and puts it inside the book jacket, it’s almost like carrying around a little desk. It works!

The ‘Jot a Note on Durable Paper from Your Bag’ System

The other fun things Jennifer does is to jot down notes on durable paper from inside her bag. It's these small pieces of paper she sticks into her library book, creating her own daybook to keep her ordered and organized.

When the time strikes for her to write something down, she always has paper in her bag, and she doesn't hesitate to grab a loose piece to jot tips and tricks down.

Jennifer and I had lunch again just prior to the New Year. Our friend Galit was with us and said, “You have to check out this book I am reading. I think you'll really like it.”

In a dash, Jennifer reached into her bag and pulled out a piece of durable paper. Done!

She jotted the book title down on the edge of a Brooklyn Museum entrance pass, then true to her system, slid it inside the jacket of her library book.

Who needs a smart-phone when you have a smart library book. And a loose paper always --- always --- in your mommy bag. #organizing
