Five Things I Am Thankful For At Home

On Thanksgiving we gather with friends and family in homes, kitchens and around tables to eat, drink and share stories and good cheer. We share a meal cooked with love and enjoy a few quiet hours when the world slows down. We press pause, even if only for a few hours, on the franticness of life. And we become thankful for others, and for our surroundings.

This Thanksgiving, I’d like to shed light on my home of 19 years, and give thanks for the ways in which it supports me, each and every day.

Thank you, cozy #bed, for all you do. For being a quiet sanctuary at times of rest. For hosting humans, #cats, guests and an assortment of decorative pillows over the years. Thank you for being firm and gentle at the same time, and for allowing me to find deep, restful sleep. And for being the place where I experience the most vivid and influential dreams. For your lightness, your solidness, your steadiness. For being a backup when I can’t stand my bed. For being my guest room, my craft room and a damn good friend. Thank you, hard wood floor. Thank you, white brick wall, for being a stunning backdrop to everything in life. For gracing my home and the pages of my website. I remember when we met. Freshly painted, you shone like the the top of the Chrysler Building. Honestly, I don’t think I would have been brave enough to paint you. But I’m grateful to the person who thought to enhance you, as we are a match made in heaven. Thank you, white brick wall. You are a stunner.

Thank you, indoor plants, for your life and for your forgiveness. For allowing this country girl a touch of life in her NYC apartment. For growing and dying, for flowering and surprising. And for always being there when I come home. Thank you, indoor plants. I deserve fresh topsoil. #weloveplants

Thank you, southern exposure, for being the greatest gift of all. This Vermont Leo cannot not survive without sun. And you provide it in high doses single day (weather permitting, of course). You send in bright light, and rainbows and showcase brilliant sunsets. You make me smile each and every day, and I could not live without you. Thank you, southern exposure. You are my Light Therapy.
