"When it comes to carpet, warm water and white vinegar should also do the trick,” said Maeve Richmond of the home organization blog, Maeve’s Method. "Use a soft bristled brush to gently loosen slime out from each individual carpet fiber, then blot with a clean, dry towel to absorb the liquid. Repeat this process several times, using a clean bucket of diluted vinegar-water as your base. Once clean, allow the spot to dry, then vacuum as usual for a restored look.”

"As a first line of defense, blot slime stains on upholstery using a clean, lightly damp cloth,” said Richmond, who notes that some man-made fabrics, like polyester, won't let the stain seep in to begin with so a simple swipe and wipe may suffice to fix the mess. "Make sure to lift the stain up and away, and not press down into the fabric, causing stains to settle in more deeply. And use distilled water, so that mineral deposits from your tap water won’t stay left behind after the fabric dries.”
