Instead of over promising and under delivering with unrealistic resolutions for the New Year, try setting some intentions. With that notion in mind, here are some ways I plan to continue living a healthy, organized, and balanced life. Maybe some of these will work for you.
Health
Set a goal of three workouts per week and walk to the gym if possible. Some weeks you may do four, so good for you. Other weeks you may only do two, and that is okay. Keep in mind how much better you feel afterwards, and let that motivate you. Don’t worry though. Getting coffee with a dear friend feels good too, and sometimes that is more important.
Home
Try to stick with the same grocery, cleaning, and laundry day from week to week. This way it won’t be something that hangs over your head that you feel guilty about putting off. For me this is a non-workout day.
Keep disinfecting wipes in your bathroom so you can more easily maintain a spotless sink and toilet. This makes cleaning day far less daunting.
Keep a paper shredder near your entryway catchall mail zone. Intend to discard items you don’t need as they come in.
To stay organized in the kitchen, only buy what groceries you need for the week, and any supplies that you are out of. Take a quick scan and make mental or physical inventory notes before you head out so that you know what you need. Avoid stocking up on items that have nowhere to live. The space is more valuable than that bulk paper towel purchase.
Loved Ones
If your parents or other close family live in the same city as you, but your schedules are tough to coordinate, set an intention to see them every two to three weeks, and call them on the off week(s). Make a list of dear friends you haven’t seen in awhile. Make plans with one or two a week until you are all caught up, or host a brunch for all of them.
These are a just a handful of ideas that have worked for me in the past. Please share your own tips in the comments below.
